Add Boston to the list of cities people will be coming in from to attend Phoenix Design Week. Our second keynote has been confirmed: Chaz Maviyane-Davies
Chaz Maviyane-Davies has been described by the UK’s Design magazine as “the guerrilla of graphic design”. For more than two decades the award-winning, controversial designer’s powerful work has taken on issues of consumerism, health, nutrition, social responsibility, the environment and human rights. He has studied (MA, the Central School of Art and Design in London) and worked in Britain, Japan, Malaysia, the US and Zimbabwe, his country of origin. From 1983 until recently he ran the renowned design studio in Harare, Zimbabwe, The Maviyane-Project.  Due to adverse political conditions in his homeland, Maviyane-Davies moved to the USA in 2001, where he is currently a Professor of Design at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. As well as being published in numerous books, international magazines and newspapers, his work has been exhibited extensively and is included in several permanent collections at various galleries.

Eric Hillerns from Portland based design firm Pinch will be coming to Phoenix for Design Week.

The Creative Director at Verse Digital Design Group prior to forming Collective Incorporated in 1997, he later evolved that concern to become Pinch. A Design Office in Portland, Oregon. Hillerns studied journalism at Blair Academy and Princeton University and architecture at The University of Idaho at Moscow.
His experience in working with startups to Fortune 100 firms has defined his counsel in approaching business issues through the considered development of brand identity, information systems, exhibit design, and social media.
He currently serves on the executive board of directors for AIGA Portland and is the chapter’s representative to AIGA’s Center for Sustainable Design. An advocate for regional design, he created Designspeaks, a small-talks series dedicated to advancing the conversation about design in the Pacific Northwest.
He teaches digital media at Portland State University, and is a collective founder of The New Communicators; a collaborative convergence intended to explore the evolution of discussion. Hillerns writes extensively about design as a process and contributes to juried exhibitions and panel discussions on the subject of speculative work.
And while he’d much prefer being on the river to writing about it, Hillerns is the Conservation Editor for Westfly, an online journal serving the western fly fishing community. He lives on the property adjoining Pinch House with his wife, Lisa, and their three sprouts.
